One stone defined the entire project.
The emerald already belonged to the client. The ring therefore had to be designed around an existing stone rather than asking the stone to adapt to a predefined mount.
Emerald Ring
A private client, a lawyer, came with an emerald of her own — approximately 12 carats — and a precise request: create a ring that would lift the stone high above the hand and make it the unquestioned center of the piece.
The setting had to rise from the hand.
The client wanted a deliberately high architecture: the emerald had to sit visibly above the finger, with enough presence to make its volume and scale immediately legible.
The center stone remains the protagonist.
Small lab-grown emeralds continue the color of the main stone without competing with it: Ø 1 mm stones on the setting and Ø 2 mm stones along the shank.
Height only works when the structure is resolved.
CAD was used to control the relationship between shank, setting, prongs and stone, balancing the requested height with support, proportions and manufacturability.
A one-off ring built around the client’s emerald.
The finished commission combines 18K gold, the client-owned approximately 12 ct center emerald and lab-grown emerald accents. The project value was €3,000, excluding the center stone.
Designed around what could not be replaced.
Because the center emerald already belonged to the client, its proportions were the fixed point of the project. The design developed outward from that constraint: a high setting, a strong vertical presence, a secure structure and smaller emerald accents that reinforce the color without taking attention away from the main stone.
